Alan Bennett
is an incredible playwright. He picks up the smallest parts of
the human character and brings them to prominence.
Appleton-Maher is brave
to attempt such a difficult medium as monologue but it is more
than bravery pulling off this show, it is a talent and an eye
almost as keen as Bennett's which has picked up so many characteristics
and mannerisms which bring the ladies in question to
life.
A nice touch at the end when Appleton-Maher returned to the
stage to talk with the audience and thank them, almost a third
act in itself, but one that showed she enjoyed the evening,
as the audience.
